LENOIR, N.C. (AP) — The U.S. Forest Service is set to hold a prescribed burn in northern Caldwell County on the Grandfather Ranger District of Pisgah National Forest.

The forest service says in a statement that it will conduct the 200-acre burn on Thursday in the Thunderhole Creek area to reduce hazardous fuels and help protect local communities from catastrophic wildfire.

Officials say smoke may be visible in Caldwell, Avery, and Watauga counties, including the towns of Blowing Rock, Boone, Linville, Foscoe and Collettsville. Drivers are being advised to use caution when traveling in those areas because of the smoke and firefighters using the roads.
