US 36 repairs completed weeks early after Colorado floods

The Associated Press Published: November 3, 2013

DENVER — Transportation officials say work crews have finished repairing U.S. Highway 36, which was severely damaged by September's floods in northern Colorado.

Amy Ford, a spokeswoman for the Colorado Department of Transportation, tells The Denver Post (http://bit.ly/1dFOKPB ) that construction on the highway was slated to be finished Dec. 1, but cooperative weather and help from National Guard units helped crews finish before winter settled into the mountainous terrain.

U.S. 36 is one of the main roads leading from the Front Range into Rocky Mountain National Park and Estes Park. About 50 percent of the road was damaged by the flooding.

Ford says the work was a temporary fix, and crews will do permanent repairs next spring.
