Jacqueline Knudson was identified Friday as the woman found dead earlier this week in her Manitou Springs home, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office said.
The 56-year-old woman was a well-liked single mother known in the community for her generosity and caring demeanor, said her son, 24-year-old Warren Knudson.
According to the county Coroner's Office, she was killed by blunt force trauma.
Officers from the Manitou Springs Police Department found her body Tuesday afternoon at her house on Waltham Avenue after receiving reports of a deceased person. On Wednesday, detectives with the Sheriff's Office arrested Christopher Miller, 29, on suspicion of first degree murder.
Miller, who rented an upper floor bedroom from Jacqueline Knudson, was later identified by investigators as the person who initially reported his landlord's death. He is being held at the El Paso County Jail without bond.
According to Warren Knudson, Miller rented the room after living in another home on Waltham Avenue. The late Knudson, out of work and spending time at home because of medical issues, had the time and space to provide for a tenant that she barely knew, Warren Knudson said.
"He seemed like a really nice kid," said Warren Knudson, who lives in Denver. "He was real quiet, real reserved."
No memorial services for Jacqueline Knudson had been scheduled as of Friday afternoon.
"She was a great woman," her son said. "Very loving, very caring."
