Colorado Springs fire crews reported all residents of a home that caught on fire Tuesday morning were safe and uninjured.

The fire department's public information officer tweeted the call for help was received at 8:34 a.m. from the 2200 block of Robin Drive, off Constitution Avenue and Union Boulevard.

A woman and a child inside were safe and had evacuated the house without sustaining injuries by 9 a.m. and the blaze had been fully extinguished, spokeswoman Sunny Smaldino said.

There were small animals inside that could not be rescued in time and fire crews were in the process of determining how many of them had perished in the blaze.

"The fire damaged the home severely and it's definitely not safe to live in," Smaldino said. "Our investigators are on the way to determine the cause of the fire."

Smaldino said three residents will be displaced due to the fire until they find alternate housing.

Scanner traffic during the incident indicated heavy smoke inside the residence made visibility minimal for fire crews, who opened windows and doors to ventilate the structure.
