Uintah house fire sends one to hospital

A house fire on east Uintah Street Wednesday afternoon sent one person to the hospital.Colorado Springs Fire Department Lt. John Aker said about 30 firefighters responded to the fire at 1916 E. Uintah St. at about 2:14 p.m. and found a column of smoke coming from the back of the house. The fire was under control about half an hour later. Annmarie Ortega was in the house, which is owned by her parents, when a child alerted her that a bed had caught fire.

Ortega, her mother and the children ran out of the house and were later treated by firefighters for smoke inhalation Her mother was taken to the hospital.

Investigators are still working to determine the fire's cause and the extent of the damage. Uintah Street was blocked between Bonfoy and Iowa avenues for several hours during the investigation.
