Two people were hospitalized Sunday night after a wreck allegedly caused by a drunken driver in northeast Colorado Springs, police said.
Christopher Dale Gardner, 41, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, vehicular assault and several misdemeanors, then booked into the El Paso County jail, records show.
According to police reports, Gardner was driving east on Research Parkway, about a block west of North Powers Boulevard, when he allegedly rear-ended a vehicle traveling in the same direction.
The collision caused the second driver to lose control and the car went over the south curb on Research Parkway, police said.
The second driver and Gardner's passenger were taken to a local hospital with serious but non life-threatening injuries.
An off-duty police officer was near the intersection observed Gardner's alleged erratic driving just before the 9:45 p.m. crash, police said.
Eastbound Research Parkway was closed a block west of North Powers Boulevard until 3 a.m. Monday, police said.
