There will be no school Wednesday for students at West Elementary and West Middle schools in District 11, due to repair work on a water main break in front of the campus. Both schools were dismissed at 1 p.m. Tuesday after the water main broke, flooding parts of both buildings, according to Colorado Springs School District 11 officials.

Both schools were affected when a service line feeding off the water main burst in front of the West campus on 20th Street shortly before 1 p.m. and D-11 officials immediately alerted parents through their Twitter and Facebook accounts, said spokeswoman Devra Ashby.

"The water flooded the main cafeteria area that's in between both schools, it's getting cleaned up right now but it's quite a mess," Ashby said.

Colorado Springs Utilities crews were on scene to shut off the water main, said utilities spokesman Steve Berry . Repairs to the service line that burst were D11's responsibility, Berry explained. There was no information on when the repairs would be completed.
