Air Academy High School reclaimed its 4A marching band championship title at this year’s Colorado Bandmasters Association finals competition, held Saturday at the Air Force Academy.
The Classical Academy, a charter school, took the 2A division title at the finals for smaller schools, which was held Monday in Parker.
Both schools are in Academy School District 20.
Also, Harrison High School, in Harrison School District 2, won third place in the 3A division.
After winning seven consecutive championships, Air Academy fell to second place last year, as Liberty High, also in D-20, edged out its rival.
But Air Academy completed a rousing performance and rallied to the top spot.
Also in 4A, Mesa Ridge High in Widefield School District 3 took third place, and Liberty was in fourth. Pine Creek High came in seventh and Rampart High School, ninth. Both are in D-20.
Bad weather impacted the schedules for both finals' competitions.
Schools are judged on various aspects of music performance, visual performance and general effect.
Air Academy High’s Kadet marching band also has been invited to perform in the 2018 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, Calif.
