A Colorado Springs staffing agency and an ambulance company that serves the city and El Paso County were awarded the Better Business Bureau of Southern Colorado's GE Johnson Ethics Award on Thursday for business practices "that go above and beyond industry norms and demonstrate a passion to do what is right when no one is looking."
The awards were given as part of the BBB's 19th annual "A Night of Excellence" ceremony, which also recognizes companies that provide outstanding customer service.
"Both ADD STAFF Inc. and American Medical Response are organizations that offer the highest level of ethical business practices in southern Colorado," Matt Barrett, CEO of the BBB's Southern Colorado operation, said in a news release.
Finalists for the ethics awards were American Water Damage, Copperleaf Homes, Energy Resource Center and Pioneer Financial Services.
No business won the ethics award in 2012, because the judging committee "was unable to differentiate a clear winner" among the four finalists.
Recipients of the 2013 Customer Service Award were:
- All Smiles Dental Group/Colorado Dental Group, which also won last year
- American Medical Response
- American Overhead Door
- Champion Windows of Colorado Springs, also a 2012 winner
-Dublin Animal Hospital
-Larry H. Miller Liberty Toyota
Nominations for the awards can come from other businesses, the public or self-referral. For the Customer Service Award, a team of third-party evaluators, all volunteers, reviews the applications, schedules site visits and submits recommendations to the BBB, said Events Specialist Kelly Utermoehlen.
For the ethics award, the Standards Committee - made up of BBB board members - reviews the applications and determines the recipient. This year, Utermoehlen said, the committee decided to vary from the norm.
"Generally, the award is given to just one company, but so many on the committee felt both deserved the recognition," she said.
