An off-duty parole officer helped a Colorado Springs woman who was allegedly robbed and assaulted by two people Wednesday night, police said.

Lyndsey Van Buskirk, 20, and Brandon Scott Rodriguez, 20, were arrested on suspicion of robbery and assault after police said they lured a female victim, stole her property and sprayed her with mace.

According to police, Van Buskirk and Rodriguez met with the victim in the area of Platte Avenue and Murray Boulevard shortly after 10 p.m. under false pretenses. They allegedly stole her wallet, cell phone and Rodriguez threatened to be in possession of a handgun.

When the victim ran away from the suspects, Van Buskirk reportedly sprayed her with mace and attacked her, when an off-duty parole officer intervened, police said.

Both suspects fled and police caught up to them at Van Buskirk's apartment, obtaining a search warrant and recovering items connecting them to the case, police said.
