Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki was placed on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to July 20) with left-handed pitcher Yohan Flande called up from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Flande (No. 58) is scheduled to start for the Rockies in tonight’s game against the Nationals at Coors Field (6:40 p.m. MT).

Tulowitzki, 29, is being placed on the disabled list with a left hip flexor strain after hitting a Majors-best .340 (107-for-315), 18 doubles, 1 triple, 21 home runs, 52 RBI and 71 runs in 91 games this season. His .432 on-base percentage and his 1.035 OPS (on-base plus slugging) also lead all Major League players, while his 71 runs are tied with three others for the best in baseball. With his first half play, Tulowitzki become a four-time All-Star, second-straight as a fan-elected starter, and was the National League’s captain in the Gillette Home Run Derby. The Rockies first round pick (7th overall) in the 2005 First-Year Player Draft has played in 961 Major League games hitting .299 (1068-for-3574) with 205 doubles, 24 triples, 176 home runs, 604 RBI and 614 runs.

Flande, 28, will be making a second stint with Colorado, where he has made three starts going 0-2 with a 7.36 ERA (14.2 ip, 12 er). He made his Major League debut on June 25th at Coors Field against the St. Louis Cardinals going 5.0 innings with 4 runs and a no-decision. Flande began the season with Triple-A Colorado Springs and went 2-9 with a 4.42 ERA (71.1 ip, 35 er) in 14 games (13 starts) for the Sky Sox. He was optioned back to Triple-A on July 7 and has pitched in two games/one start since his option (6.0 ip, 13 h, 8 r-er, 3 bb, 6 k). Yohan spent time in the Phillies (2006-10) and Braves (2011-13) organizations before joining the Rockies organization this year.

The Rockies currently have a full 40-man roster.
