Several trash trucks caught fire Tuesday night in Black Forest, and investigators are working to figure out what ignited the blaze.

The Black Forest Fire Department and other crews were called to a Tri-Lakes Disposal site off Vollmer Road, just northeast of East Woodmen and Black Forest roads, about 8:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Crews controlled the fire, then stayed to look for hot spots.

Firefighters were unsure if the fire was intentionally started or if something in the trash inadvertently sparked it, Black Forest Assistant Fire Chief James Rebitski told Gazette news partner KKTV. An arson investigator is conducting a full probe.

"People throw away a multitude of things. We have no idea what was in the truck when it ignited. We take all the safety precautions -- all our firefighters are on self-contained breathing apparatus so that they do not inhale any fumes," Rebitski told KKTV.

Rebistki said he knew of no hazardous materials concern for neighbors. It wasn't clear how many trucks were damaged.
