A temporary change made to the traffic circle at South Carefree Circle and New Center Point improved traffic flow and safety and will be made permanent.

Beginning Thursday, there will be intermittent closures throughout May on South Carefree from Powers Boulevard to Tutt Boulevard for construction, according to a news release from the City of Colorado Springs.

Drivers should use North Carefree Circle and Constitution Avenue to avoid the construction area.

The roundabout was reduced to a single lane circle to improve safety. The construction will include removal and replacement of some concrete and asphalt and new curbs and gutters.

The work will be done primarily 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays to reduce the impact on evening and weekend traffic to the businesses.
