UPDATE 8:06 p.m.
A woman died in a three-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon on Highway 50 west of Cañon City, the Colorado State Patrol announced.
Ricardo Charles, 48, of Henderson, Nev., was driving a 2012 Kenworth tractor pulling a utility trailer east on Highway 50 shortly after 12:15 p.m., the State Patrol said.
Charles reportedly failed to negotiate a right-hand curve, drifted into the westbound lanes and collided with a 2012 BMW X3 being driven by Mary Giacomelli, 73, of Westcliffe, the State Patrol said.
The semi then traveled back into the eastbound lanes and collided with a 2011 Buick being driven by George Robinson, 59, of Montrose, forcing the car into a guardrail and off the south side of the road.
The semi continued southbound, collided with a guardrail and smashed into a rock embankment, the State Patrol said. The trailer's cargo was dislodged and fell onto the Buick.
Charles and his passenger were not injured in the crash. Giacomelli also was not injured.
Robinson was taken to a local hospital with severe injuries. His passenger, Brenda Kay Robinson, 57, of Montrose, died in the crash.
Neither drugs nor alcohol are being considered factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
