baseball

Team Record Last Week

5A

1. Pine Creek 8-4 No. 1

2. Fountain-Fort Carson 5-9 No. 2

3. Palmer 6-8 NR

4A

1. Lewis-Palmer 11-3 No. 1

2. Palmer Ridge 8-3 No. 2

3. Mesa Ridge 10-3 No. 3

3A and below

1. The Classical Academy 11-2 No. 1

2. St. Mary's 9-4 No. 2

3. Peyton 11-2 No. 3

Breakdown: Palmer has won three in a row and four of five in 5A Colorado Springs Metro League play. Entering the week, the Terrors were alone by a half game in first in the conference. They'll face Liberty once and Doherty twice this week before a home and home with second-place Pine Creek. ... Lewis-Palmer did it once. Can the Rangers do it again? L-P rallied to beat Palmer Ridge in a 2-1 nail-biter. The two meet again Tuesday. ... TCA is riding a six-game win streak and undefeated in the 3A Tri-Peaks West. Second-place Manitou Springs gets its shot at the Titans on Saturday in a doubleheader. Peyton's only two losses are to league rival Kiowa and AP No. 1 Swink. Not bad.

Team Record Last Week

5A

1. Pine Creek 10-1 No. 1

2. Liberty 9-3 No. 2

3. Doherty 4-6 NR

4A

1. Cheyenne Mountain 8-0-2 No. 1

2. Lewis-Palmer 7-2-3 No. 3

3. Palmer Ridge 6-4 NR

3A

1. Evangelical Christian Academy 11-0 No. 1

2. St. Mary's 8-1 No. 2

3. Manitou Springs 7-3 No. 3

Breakdown: Pine Creek is looking extremely capable of duplicating the boys' team's accomplishment of winning the state title. Especially after topping perennial power and defending 5A state champ Mountain Vista in overtime last week. The Eagles can take a big step toward winning the league title on Wednesday when they play Liberty. The Doherty Spartans' only league loss is to Pine Creek, which could prove important come playoff seeding if they can keep it that way. ... No surprise to see Nick Odil's Bears in the 4A rankings. The young team just needed time to jell and it looks like they're doing that. The Bears are riding a five-game winning streak and have posted shutouts in four of those five. ... How long can ECA keep that winning streak going? We'll find out this week when the the Eagles get huge tests from red-hot The Classical Academy (Tuesday) and Manitou Springs (Friday). A win over the Titans would give the Eagles at least a share of the 3A Region 2 league crown. A sweep over both opponents and ECA is outright league champ. St. Mary's has hopes of a league title, too. The Pirates haven't faced much stiff competition in league, but that will change next week when they travel to Fountain Valley.
