A look at this week’s area college hockey top performers:
Christiano Versich, F,
The Tigers freshman had a two-point weekend, notching what looked like the game-winner before Miami tied it up with 41 seconds left in the third period of Friday’s eventual 3-2 overtime victory and feeding Tanner Ockey for the first goal of a 2-1 win over the RedHawks on Saturday night.
“He gave me a great pass and I had a pretty good look at the net,” Ockey said.
An untimely boarding penalty Saturday with 1:01 to play and the slimmest of leads couldn’t knock Versich out of the top spot this week.
Alex Leclerc, G, Colorado College
The sophomore goaltender turned in 26-save efforts in a pair of one-goal games and backstopped the penalty kill, which killed off all eight Redhawks power plays. Miami is sixth in the NCAA in power play efficiency, converting on 27.9 percent of their chances
Kristian Blumenschein, D, Colorado College
With Cole McCaskill, and Nate Kwiecinski and Zach Berzolla out both nights, the five healthy Colorado College defensemen had their work cut out for them. Blumenschein, a sophomore, earned the primary assist on both power-play goals Friday night and blocked five shots on the weekend.
