- The seventh annual Educating Children of Color Summit runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Colorado College.
Nationally known educators and child welfare experts will lead sessions intended to inspire high school and undergraduate college students, parents and professionals in educational excellence. The event is free for students and parents, and $25 for professionals. To register: visit educating childrenofcolor.org.
- Coloradans who enrolled in health insurance plans through the state's new exchange, Connect for Health Colorado, have until Friday to pay their first month's bill.
The deadline for paying the bill - called a premium - was delayed amid the rocky rollout of the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare.
The typical deadline is Jan. 1, but Colorado insurance companies agreed to move that deadline back. If newly enrolled Coloradans pay by that time, they will remain in good standing with their insurance companies. Those that don't risk failing to activate their new coverage.
Shoppers who have yet to enroll have until Jan. 15 to sign up for February coverage. People who don't mind their coverage beginning later in the year can still enroll through March 31.
- Fort Carson will host a Joint Forces Retiree Appreciation Day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. At the Special Events Center, Building 1829, the event will feature a continental breakfast, medical and dental services, flu shots and legal services.
