The reason we all vote; stop the extremists

The reason we all vote

Whatever happened to the land of the free and the home of the brave? The no smoking issue was put on the ballot at least three times and voted down each time! The powers that be did it anyway! Now the general public voted to legalize marijuana and the powers that be in many counties are trying to block the sales. I thought that was the reason we have the right to vote?

Mayor Steve Bach says he wants to revitalize downtown. Doesn't he realize the sales tax on legal pot would help a bunch? There are more whacky tobacky smokers on the west side than anywhere else!

Can't get beyond ignorance

The marijuana debate is perpetuated by ignorance.

Being a scientist in the field, its hard for me to imagine that anyone would attempt to limit another person's choice to use a god-given plant that has numerous health benefits including anti-aging effects. Cannabis inhibits all age-related illnesses including: cognitive dysfunction like Alzheimer's; autoimmune diseases such as arthritis, diabetes, Crohn's and multiple sclerosis; cardiovascular disease, skeletal disorders and cancers, and viral infections such as HIV and Kaposi's sarcoma. The National Cancer Institute has finally, acknowledged the anti-cancer properties of cannabis.

There reason cannabis has so many positive health effects is that all humans, in fact all vertebrates, have an endocannabinoids system that acts as a homeostatic regulator of all other body systems (circulatory, digestive, endocrine, immune, musculo-skeletal, nervous, and reproductive).

I commend The Gazette article showing the profound effects the plant has on the seizures suffered as a result of Druvet's syndrome. People suffering from countless other illnesses laugh and cry at the absurd position promulgated by the federal government that marijuana has no medical value. The fact that our legislators cannot get beyond their ignorance is proof of their incompetence. They care nothing for scientific truths or the suffering of millions, only for raising funds to maintain their privileged positions. Democrats and Republicans need each other to sustain the status quo that is so beneficial to themselves and harmful to everyone else.

Something is very wrong

What can I do? I see Benghazi, Fast and Furious, the IRS scandal, the AP email investigation, laws that are passed that no one really thought out and now PRISM.

I have lost almost all confidence and trust in my government and that goes for both parties. What's one to do as an individual citizen? Yes, I vote, but I don't feel that's enough, it doesn't seem to work, basically because so many uninformed people vote. I don't care what your political persuasion is, you don't have to agree with me but at least pay attention. You don't vote for someone because he or she is cute etc., you vote for what the person can and will do for the country.

For the past 30 years, once a week I've gotten together with several friends of mine and we just shoot the breeze about all kinds of topics. We all seem to agree that something is wrong, terribly wrong with the way this country is headed and to a person we don't have any idea of what to do about it. I'm absolutely not advocating a revolution of some sort but short of that what can we do? I'm sad, and concerned that my son and grandson, and for that matter the younger generation may not see the America I've grown up in and am so proud of.

As I compose this letter to the editor, I'm also thinking, will I be audited, how sad, so very sad.

Extremists need to be stopped

Congrats to Rob Harris, Laura Carno, and all of the volunteer activists for gathering double the number of signatures required to initiate a recall of Senate President John Morse.

It is a drastic step that needs to be taken; it is time to send a message to the Democratic Party that their overreach was too extreme and that the people of Colorado will not stand for it. After all, there is another legislative session for their shenanigans before the next general election can bring balance back to our state.

While this effort was driven by citizens who felt their voices were ignored on the gun control issues, the recall should be a referendum on the entire session of extremism led by Morse and Gov. John Hickenlooper.

When most people in Colorado wanted the legislature to concentrate on jobs, the economy, and pocket book issues like the cost of college, Morse and Hickenlooper lurched far to the left with the aforementioned gun control bills, paybacks to their friends in the environmental community, election rigging bills, entitlement expansions, and attacks on small business.

In short, they let us down, and as the most senior leader of the Democrats in Denver, Morse should be held personally responsible. Maybe doing so will send a clear message to Gov. Hickenlooper and the rest of their party to moderate a bit.

It is hard for me, personally, to make this call; I like John a lot. While we disagree on most public policy, he is a pleasant and intelligent man.

He is also the author and sponsor of the worst gun control bill offered; one that practically made it impossible to even own a semi-automatic handgun or rifle. For that matter, the bill made double barrel shotguns too great of a liability to own. He also repealed the spending limit, which puts him at odds with one of the greatest concerns most people have with government today: excessive spending and government debt.

It is not easy to say so, but this drastic step needs to be taken. Morse should be recalled.
