Breakdown: Inclement weather that rolled through Friday wiped out most teams’ season-opening games or scrimmages. Pine Creek has won or shared the 5A Colorado Springs Metro League title the past four seasons and has an early rematch with Legend on Saturday. That’s the Titans team, minus stud pitcher Bobby Dalbec, which blanked the Eagles 2-0 in last season’s district playoffs. Dalbec later committed to Arizona, the defending NCAA national champions. … Air Academy (Pikes Peak Athletic Conference) and Coronado (CSML) won their respective league crowns last season. The Kadets fell to Cañon City at home in the district tournament. Coronado has a new coach in Ryan Sheets for the 2014 season. Falcon, which tied for third in the PPAC but lost in its first playoff game, gets an early litmus test Thursday against Pueblo West, which fell in the 4A title game in May. … TCA won 10 of 11 league games last season to win the Tri-Peaks West, while St. Mary’s, co-league champs in the Tri-Peaks East, opens at home March 17 against Eaton, last season’s 3A state runner-up.

Breakdown: Pine Creek and Liberty shared the 5A CSML crown. And both teams have lots of talent back. That doesn’t mean Doherty won’t be in the mix again. ... Cheyenne Mountain is the defending state champ. It showed that resolve again with a game-tying goal in the final minute of regulation against 5A Fossil Ridge on Saturday. There will be a number of teams that can have a legitimate shot for these spots. ... TCA rebuilding or reloading? There’s always a lot of talent there.
