The first Instagram photo from space is of Colorado astronaut

The first Instagram from space has been logged, and it’s courtesy of an American astronaut. Take that, RUSSIA. Steven R. Swanson is the subject of the first space Insta, and his backdrop is a little more exciting than sunset on the Santa Monica peer: it’s the Earth.

The Earth, the giant planet on which we dwell, is just casually hanging out in the background.

This isn’t the first time an astronaut has taken a selfie in space and then had it posted to Instagram, but it is the first time a photo has been taken and then immediately posted outside of the Earth’s atmosphere. In this case, the International Space Station. Swanson’s pic was uploaded to the @ISS account, and history was made.
