The Suns will be shining brightly on Friday, Nov. 10, during the noon hour on the Gazette News Facebook page on our exclusive live program, Take 10. Well, at least one of them will.
The Stray Suns' Jake Oakey will be in the Gazette studio in downtown Colorado Springs to perform for you.
During a recent interview, Oakey talked about his his music and his passion for singing, playing guitar and writing music.
The Stray Suns is no flash in the pan band. Oakey, who sings and plays guitar, is the last original member of this Colorado Springs-based alt-rock group that started in 2011. He hopes the audience will appreciate the band's new music during the performance.
"I hope folks stop looking at their phone and actually listen to us," said Oakey, who went to high school at Lewis-Palmer in Monument.
Stray Suns is a four piece alternative rock group with shades of the Dave Matthews Band and Pearl Jam, Oakey said. A memorable moment was when the group played the Pepsi Center during a Denver Nuggets halftime show, twice.
"It was awesome, lots of fun, a good experience and at the same time, heartbreaking," he said. "It could be the last time we ever play a venue like that. As much as I would like to think that we are a great group, there is a lot of great music out there."
Oakey said that next spring, the Stray Suns hope to release a full CD, "If nothing else comes from my music career, I want that album to be fantastic, especially in an age where people listen to one track at a time."
Oakey said one of his dreams for himself and the Stray Suns is to play Red Rocks.
Oakey will be performing live Friday during the noon hour on the Gazette News Facebook page on Take 10.
