It'll be a double-first for the Gazette's Take 10 entertainment segment broadcast live on the Gazette News Facebook platform during the noon hour. On Friday, July 21: I'll introduce you to Addie, (the kid magician) Zaiger. Addie is our youngest performer at 9 years old and she is also our first magician to perform on Take 10.
I had the opportunity to talk with Addie and her dad, Jeff Zaiger, on the phone about what she will perform and her love of illusions. Addie said she started magic at age 6, when her dad started teaching her magic tricks. Addie says she got to love doing the tricks, started practicing them at home and has been professionally performing for the last two to three years.
"I feel excited and nervous in front of audiences, but it's a cool feeling to relate to people," she said.
Addie says she has performed professionally at venues like the Great Wolf Lodge and Cheyenne Mountain Resort in Colorado Springs. Her dad says people at magic conventions that he and Addie attend really take an interest in her because of how young she is to be linked to the magic craft and her ability.
"She's probably past me now, magically. She started doing all the tricks and I got out of the way. Her slight of hand is unbelievable. I'll try to do a trick that she does and can't do it. She can perfect a trick in five minutes. She just has a knack for it and it comes natural to her," Jeff Zaiger said.
Among the illusions Addie will perform during her Take 10 appearance are something called "Heavy-Light." I am not going to spoil it for you, but will say that her goal is to one day to perform this for the Denver Broncos and have one of the big lineman be part of the trick.
Join us to watch the young magician perform live on Take 10 on the Gazette News Facebook platform during the noon hour.
If you are magician, musician, poet, playwright or whatever you do live to wow a crowd, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org to tell me what you do so you can be like Addie and perform on a future Take 10 segment live in front of the Gazette Facebook family.
This is just one of the ways that the Gazette promotes southern Colorado entertainment and makes sure it continues to be a robust source of entertainment magic in our area.
