Dynamic is how Red Rocks Rebellion founder Eric Owings describes his group's musical attitude. Red Rocks Rebellion plays danceable classic rock 'n' roll in the Colorado Springs and Pikes Peak region. The triple "R" is the Gazette's featured Take 10 performer who will be live on Friday, June 23 in the noon hour on the Gazette Facebook page.

Owings said his bandmates try to spark their audience with their music, "With a magnetic pull to the dance floor to participate. Red Rocks Rebellion is not a spectator sport."

Owings started the group in early January with different people, a different name and a different approach to the music. But he didn't believe that musical formula worked so he made a switch to the current foursome which includes himself playing bass, lead and backing vocals, Donny Coram, lead vocalist, Stevie Bassett, lead guitar, lead and backing vocals and Bob Landry, drums and backing vocals. Owings told me that this musical mix is working professionally and personally for him and the others, "It feels like we're brothers of different mothers."

Currently, Red Rocks Rebellion is playing cover material but Owings says the group will be writing and recording originals in the future. Owings is no stranger to the musical scene. He has been playing professionally for more than 30 years, since his teens.

His journey to become a musician started at age 13. Owings said that he started learning guitar by watching television. He remembers a PBS show that helped budding musicians learn how to play the instrument and then he was hooked.

Don't miss Red Rocks Rebellion, the Gazette's featured performer for our live Take 10 performance on Friday in the noon hour on the Gazette Facebook page from our downtown Gazette studio.
