The magic of music performed simultaneously in two countries will be featured on our Friday, Sept.8, live, Take 10 on the Gazette News Facebook platform during the noon hour.

We are taking the program on the road to the What IF ... Festival of Innovation and Imagination in downtown Colorado Springs. We will take you inside the Portal, an 8-foot by 20-foot shipping container that doubles as an international music venue. It's painted gold and is located on the sidewalk in front of the main entrance of the Colorado Springs Pioneer Museum.

Imagination Celebration Executive Director Deborah Thompson says, "We will have musicians playing from around the world with their counterparts in the Pikes Peak region."

On Take 10, Harriett Landrum will be playing violin from inside the Portal in Colorado Springs, and from a Portal in Mexico City we will have another musician, to be determined, playing at the same time that Landrum is performing.

The two will be able to interact because of the Portals, which use immersive audio-visual technology to connect people in cities where other portals are located. Unlike video conferencing software, Portals offer full-body experiences, where users feel as though they have just walked into the same room as someone across the world. Think of the Portal as a life-sized Facetime or Google Hangouts platform where you can see and interact with people from around the world on an 8-foot-tall television screen.

Imagination Celebration is using the Portal as part of its What IF ... Festival to ask "What if you could walk into the internet?" It is among more than 120 experiences that people of all ages will be able to experience downtown on Saturday.

Don't miss this special live edition of Take 10 on the road at the Portal on our Gazette News Facebook platform during the noon hour on Friday.

If you are someone who can wow a live crowd, I want to hear from you so we can feature you on a future Take 10 live performance. Email me at eric.singer@gazette.com. Take 10 is just one of the many ways that the Gazette promotes southern Colorado entertainment online and in print.
