A Colorado musician who's been sharpening his musical chops since he was 3 years old will be the Take 10 featured performer, live on the Gazette News Facebook page during the noon hour on Friday, Aug. 25. Take 10will be on the road with Doug Garvey, live from the Colorado State Fairgrounds in Pueblo. Friday is the start of the Fair's 2017 run.
Garvey's mom and dad got him learning piano as a child, and then trumpet. His parents continued to help him foster that love of music and live performance by the time he was 10. Garvey told me he was sort of like the Tiger Woods of music, learning his future craft at such a young age and loving the experience.
Garvey has performed at the state fairgrounds as a member of several bands, six or seven times over the years. This will be his first solo performance and he said he's excited to play the fairgrounds. "It's a special place. It's fun to play on the big stage with the big sound. I've done it many times. I've produced shows here as well," he said.
Doug's goal when he gets up on stage is to jog musical memories with classic rock songs from the 60s and 70s. "I also want young people to see there is lots of great music and memories to experience," he said. Garvey will also play some original material.
For our live Take 10 performance, Garvey will be mixing it up on acoustic and electric guitar and keyboard.
