Put your musical motor into overdrive as Take 10 introduces you to Twelve Valve Diesel live on Friday, May 5, during the noon hour on the Gazette Facebook page from our downtown Gazette news studio. Lead vocalist and guitarist Nic Watrous says his group is all about red dirt underground alternative country.
Nic is originally from eastern Oklahoma. Oklahoma has red dirt and he says that his group is very unlike the very produced Nashville sound that you hear on the radio. Nic says red dirt style music is more like what you'd hear from music greats like Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings or Merle Haggard.
Twelve Valve Diesel formed in December 2016. Nic brought in Jerod Webster who is the founding bass player and Max Maggs who plays drums. All three have shared a musical history, playing in other bands before joining together for Twelve Valve Diesel.
Nic's one word description of his musical sound is "Southern." It's that red dirty country that makes a big impression on his musical mantra. Nic started playing music in church and progressed with a college career which included a minor in music. He also graduated from the Oklahoma Music Academy in Tulsa.
