TABLE TALK: Old Colorado City Gertrude's Restaurant is getting a make over with a new name

Tom Lazaron, who bought Gertrude's Restaurant, 2625 W. Colorado Ave., from Robert Wooldridge in 2007, is changing the eatery into an Irish pub called Alchemy. He's investing $20,000 to $30,000 to give the dining room a facelift and make the bar a real bar.

"I'm going for a more casual restaurant and keeping menu prices below $20," he said. "I'll keep some of the favorite dishes on the current menu and add a few new things."

He wants to create a neighborhood-style bar like places in his hometown of Milwaukee, Wis. "I think this will appeal to more customers," he said.

So, out with the white linen tablecloths and in with newly finished tabletops. Lazaron is also busy tearing out the sheet rock to expose the brick walls. He plans to be open by mid-September to early October. Call 471-0887.

Cr?/em>perie dispute

La Creperie, 204 N. Tejon St., has been notified that its lease will not be renewed. According to a letter from Frederic M. Wise of Allen & Wise, a legal service, posted July 18 on La Creperie's FaceBook page, "The landlord is not willing to negotiate a new lease to replace your month-to-month tenancy."

On the move

Briar Mart International Market and Caf? 1843 Briargate Blvd., closed on Aug. 1 and will move to the former Mission Inn Mexican Food Restaurant, 6799 N. Academy Blvd. The larger space will accommodate a larger dining area, bigger kitchen and more space for an expanded market filled with Middle Eastern foods. A mid-August opening is planned. Joseph Stasolla, owner of Joey's Pizza, 1829 Briargate Blvd., is moving his restaurant a few doors down to the vacant Briar Mart International Market and Caf?space. Asian luncheon

A coalition of local Asian organizations is having the Asian Pacific Community Luncheon at the Antlers Hotel, 4 S. Cascade Ave., from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 15. Eric Hiraga, chief of staff and deputy manager of aviation at Denver International Airport, will talk about Uniteds new direct flight from Denver to Tokyo. Cost for the luncheon is $23 per person.
