Lacie Richardson, owner of Wild Woman Fish Co. and who grew up in Colorado Springs, got hooked on commercial fishing in Alaska one summer. After graduating from Western State Colorado University in Gunnison, she headed northwest, spending six years developing her fishing skills in Alaska. She has returned to the Springs and founded a food company that furnishes wild fish to our community.
"We catch all our fish one at a time, one hook at a time," she says. "No nets. I say, 'From our boat to your table.' The fish are caught, cleaned immediately and blast frozen to minus 30 degrees."
This process allows customers to experience exactly what Alaskan wild seafood tastes like directly out of Alaska's waters. According to her website, the fish she sells are guaranteed the highest quality in the world - and the most nutritious. Her company is sponsored by fishchoice.com, which is an extensive network of seafood distributors that support seafood distributors who are sustainable and responsible fisheries.

C.W. Craig Reed has retired as director of food and beverage at The Broadmoor, a position he held for the past 25 years. Reed's replacement is John Johnstone.
"Because of my long history here, I am very pleased to welcome John to the team here at The Broadmoor. I have had the pleasure of knowing John for many years. He is the consummate professional, and his leadership and talent will no doubt lead The Broadmoor to new heights," he said in a news release.
Johnstone comes to The Broadmoor from Augusta National Golf Club, where he was in charge of clubhouse operations, as well as all Masters tournament food and beverages. Johnstone was awarded his Certified Master Chef distinction from the American Culinary Federation in 2003; he served as team captain for the United Kingdom Epicurean World Master Chef's Society, as well as team captain for the American Culinary Federation's Team Long Island. From 2006 to 2009, Johnstone also served as culinary adviser for the U.S. Olympic Team.
Edelweiss German Restaurant, 34 E. Ramona Ave., is the place to be for a traditional "Sommer Fest,"where a Paulaner truck will be parked across the street from the restaurant.
