TABLE TALK: Colorado Springs bartender teaches classes to hone cocktail making skills

I stepped up to the bar at The Blue Star, 1645 S. Tejon St., for the inaugural "Date with Nate" the first Sunday afternoon in June. For 30 bucks, Nate Windham, the cocktail and spirits specialist at the eatery, taught me and 19 other barflies how to make two punches, set up a mojito bar and crack the secret of his famous Manhattan.

"The best drink I make," he said.

He uses rye whiskey (never bourbon), Antica Ricetta sweet Italian vermouth, Luxardo Liqueur Maraschino and a brandy soaked cherry for his delicious classic Manhattan.

"Date with Nate" is a two-hour cocktail class once a month. If the first class, which sold out in a few days, is any indication, Windham will be busy stirring and serving drinks monthly for eager learners for some time. Happy hour all day

Poor Richard's, 322 and 324 1/2 N. Tejon St., offers happy hour all day every day at the eatery and Rico's. Each month, two red wines and two white wines will be featured for $5 per glass.
