An own goal opened the scoring floodgates for Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC in Saturday’s 4-0 win at Reno 1868, giving the Switchbacks their first road points of the season.
Reno’s Luis Felipe redirected a pass into his own goal in the 19th minute.
While that was the only goal needed to secure the team’s first road points, the Switchbacks used the final 70-plus minutes to get its attack together.
Luke Vercollone settled a long pass and played a cross to AJ Ajeakwa who put his header into the bottom left part of goal for his second score of the season in the 25th minute.
The Switchbacks took a 2-0 lead to the break and added to it early in the second half.
Vercollone scored his first goal of 2018 with a shot that curled just inside the far post. Jamal Jack headed in a Josh Suggs corner in the 67th minute.
Goalkeeper Moise Pouaty recorded his first clean sheet of the season after coming up big on with a couple saves in the first half.
The Switchbacks will look for another road win Wednesday at Sacramento.
