Cameroonian goalkeeper Moise Pouaty will make his Colorado Springs Switchbacks debut versus the Real Monarchs SLC at 6 p.m. Saturday at Weidner Field.
Pouaty was unavailable during the first two weeks of the season after his call-up to the Cameroon senior national team, the defending African Cup champs, for an international against Tunisia. The Switchbacks waited for his paperwork to clear the United Soccer League office, which happened earlier this week.
He replaced former Denver standout Dan Jackson (0-1-2, 10 saves), who was undone by defensive breakdowns. Here is a feature on Jackson that appeared in Saturday’s Gazette.
In addition to Pouaty’s debut, veteran midfielder Luke Vercollone will get his first start this season in place of Chris James, who is resting with a minor injury. James practiced on Friday with the seventh-place Switchbacks (1-1-2).
The first 500 fans will receive a free Switchbacks beanie upon entering Weidner Field.
