Josh Suggs' involvement in the Switchbacks' 2-1 win over Rio Grande Valley on Saturday did not go unnoticed.
The United Soccer League named Suggs, the team's left back, to its Week 4 Team of the Week after he scored the team's first goal against RGV in the 63rd minute. His well-placed ball from outside the box skipped into the side netting broke a scoreless streak that was approaching 400 minutes and helped the team end a three game losing skid.
Suggs also helped the hosts hold on to the win after the Toros pulled within a goal in the final 10 minutes.
The team captain, who was voted Man of the Match by Switchbacks supporters Saturday, also won 8 of 11 duels and completed a pair of key passes, according to the club's statistics. He has a team-high 13 key passes on the season.
Suggs also started and played all 90 minutes Wednesday in a 1-0 loss at Swope Park Rangers, one of the three teams atop the Western Conference standings with 10 points. The Switchbacks sit four points back of the leaders with a pair of wins.
It is the second time this season a Switchbacks defender has earned the nod. Taylor Hunter was selected to the team for his Week 1 performance in a 2-0 win over LA Galaxy II.
Switchbacks to appear on ESPN networks
After announcing an expanded partnership with ESPN last week, the USL announced its Game of the Week broadcast schedule on Tuesday.
The Switchbacks appear twice, both away from Weidner Field.
The team's April 18 game at Sacramento Republic is the first Game of the Week listed and will be broadcast on ESPN3.
On July 25, the Switchbacks game at San Antonio FC will be carried on ESPNU.
