The Colorado Springs Switchbacks held off a strong start by last-place Portland Timbers 2 to record a scoreless road draw Wednesday afternoon.
Colorado Springs goalkeeper Moise Pouaty made three big saves in the first half to keep it scoreless before an announced crowd of 7,227 at Providence Park in Portland (1-7-1).
The visiting third-place Switchbacks (3-2-4) struggled offensively and were unable to convert some chances late in the first and early in the second halves to break the deadlock.
"I thought the players put in a solid and disciplined performance today," Switchbacks coach Steve Trittschuh said in a media release after his team's second-straight shutout. "Defense was focused today and I thought we had some good looks at the goal today. Now we need to recover and get prepared for Vancouver on Sunday."
The Switchbacks play at Vancouver at 4 p.m. Sunday before returning home for a U.S.Open Cup game on May 17.
