Eric William Grant and Derrick Davis will stand trial on murder charges in last year's killing of Colorado Springs auto shop owner George Maldonado, 4th Judicial District Attorney's Office spokeswoman Lee Richards said Thursday.
A judge ordered both bound over after preliminary hearings that ended Thursday determined there was sufficient evidence to go to trial.
Maldonado, 50, was beaten to death July 13 at his shop, Full Throttle Auto Service, 305 N. Chelton Road. Davis, 59, was arrested four days after the killing at a Super 8 Hotel in Bloomington, Minn. Grant, 38, evaded capture until Oct. 10, when he was arrested in Philadelphia.
Davis and Grant each are accused of six felonies, including first-degree murder after deliberation, court records show.
Davis' arraignment is scheduled for 11 a.m. Feb. 27.
Grant is next expected in court March 27 for a motions hearing, followed by a pretrial readiness hearing May 18 and a jury trial May 30. He pleaded not guilty to all of the charges against him, court records show.
Both men are being held in El Paso County jail without bond, inmate records show.
