OAK CREEK CANYON, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities say a Tucson woman on vacation in northern Arizona is recovering after she was sexually assaulted in Oak Creek Canyon.

Coconino County Sheriff's officials say the incident occurred Wednesday.

The 52-year-old woman says she was vacationing in Flagstaff.

On her way home to Tucson, she was driving through Sedona and stopped on the side of South 89A close to the Call of the Canyon day use area to admire the view of a creek.

Sheriff's investigators say the woman approached from behind and physically assaulted by a man who then fled on foot.

Detectives are trying to determine whether the suspect was armed at the time of the assault.

They have a description of the attacker, who is estimated to be in his 40s.
