A suspect is dead after a pursuit ended in an officer-involved shooting Tuesday near Palmer Park Boulevard and North Circle Drive, Colorado Springs police said.
"Our officers were in the area, attempting to take an individual into custody," said police Lt. Howard Black. "A pursuit ensued, there was some other criminal activity that occurred ... (and) the suspect that officers were chasing was pronounced dead at a local hospital."
No officers were injured during the incident.
The pursuit began near East Fillmore Street and Illinois Avenue, Black said. Police did not say when the incident occurred or why the pursuit began. The names of those involved have not been released.
"There is absolutely no risk to our community," Black said. "All individuals are accounted for at this incident."
Drivers were advised to avoid the area of Palmer Park Boulevard and North Circle Drive, where there was a heavy police presence. "Circle will be closed down for hours," Black said.
Police are also investigating a second scene near East Fillmore Street and Templeton Gap Road.
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office will lead the investigation, following the state mandate that a third party handle incidents involving a law enforcement agency's use of deadly force.

During the encounter, in which Watson continually asked Williams to drop his gun, Williams fired one round at Watson but missed, and then Watson fired multiple rounds, hitting Williams in the abdomen.
