WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. (AP) — Colorado authorities have arrested a man wanted on a murder charge in Illinois who escaped while being transported from Las Vegas.

Police say Turhan Robinson, 37, escaped from a private inmate-transport service at a truck stop in the Denver suburb of Wheat Ridge early Friday. Authorities announced his capture Friday afternoon.

Jim Lorentz, a Wheat Ridge police division chief, said investigators believe Robinson was shackled but officers are trying to confirm whether that was the case.

Lorentz said Robinson had been arrested in Las Vegas, but he did not know where in Illinois he was being taken.

Robinson was one of two St. Louis men accused in the Illinois shooting death of a man during an alleged drug-related robbery.

He and Terrence Lee, 30, of Jennings, Missouri, are charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder and armed robbery in that case. Investigators allege the men shot Kenneth Deal, 43, of Venice, in Madison on May 19 while trying to rob him of marijuana.

The attempted murder count relates to a shot fired from the suspects' car at a Madison police officer during an ensuing chase.
