Dueling rallies in support of and against El Paso County Sheriff Terry Maketa are planned for Thursday afternoon outside the Sheriff's Office in downtown Colorado Springs.

Citizens for Sheriff Terry Maketa, a Facebook group, announced a rally in support of Maketa from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. outside the office at 27 East Vermijo Avenue.

That will happen while protestors calling for the immediate resignation of Maketa have a rally of their own outside the Sheriff's Office, from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Maketa is accused of sexual impropriety, discrimination, removing almost all oversight of the Sheriff's Office annual budget and a hostile work environment, according to a complaint filed to the El Paso Board of County Commissioners in mid-May by three of his commanders. They also filed a complaint with the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
