Gazette Premium Content Some showers expected later Saturday

By Kristina Iodice Published: July 20, 2013

Although the morning opened with fog east of Colorado Springs, Saturday is expected to be mostly sunny and warm, with a high temperature near 86 for the Colorado Springs area.

There's a 40 percent chance for showers over the Waldo Canyon fire burn scar later in the day, said Pamela Evenson, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Pueblo.

"It's a little drier in the atmosphere" than Friday, she said, adding that the slow-moving storms will arrive mostly after 1 p.m.

There are no flood watches or warnings in effect, although as usual, the National Weather Service is keeping a close eye on the burn areas.

"It only takes one," Evenson said. "It's a threat anytime we get thunderstorms."

Temperatures forecast for upcoming days will be slightly above normal. The average normal for this time of year is 85 degrees.

Sunday is expected it be mostly sunny, with a high near 88. It will be even drier than Saturday, Evenson said, with about a 10 percent chance of rain over the Waldo Canyon burn scar.

Temperatures are forecast to be even higher Monday and Tuesday, with highs around 90 degrees.
