A small fire is smoldering in the Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, a spokesman there confirmed.
An 11 person hand crew from the U.S. Forest Service has created a scratch line around a 20 foot by 30 foot fire burning on the west side of the park, according to spokesman Jeff Wolin. Lightning is believed to have started the fire, which was first reported around 3 p.m. Friday.
"The park is open its normal hours, but trails on the west side of the park are closed at this time," Wolin said.
