Small plane that departed Durango missing in Utah

Associated Press Published: June 19, 2014

SALT LAKE CITY — Authorities in the southeast corner of Utah are searching for a small plane with one person aboard that went missing out of Colorado.

San Juan County Sheriff Rick Eldredge says there are four planes currently searching for the aircraft.

He said two small planes took off from Durango, Colorado, Wednesday morning in route to the backcountry of Idaho with a fuel stop planned for Brigham City in northern Utah.

Eldredge says the planes went off the radar when they flew over the La Sal Mountain Range in Utah. One plane came back on radar when it cleared the mountains but the second did not.

Eldredge says Utah authorities began searching Wednesday afternoon with efforts continuing overnight.
