by name Newspaper - Published: May 27, 2013 0

Colorado Springs vs. the Tacoma Rainiers (Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners) at Security Service Field, Tuesday through Friday, each game starting at 7:05 p.m.

Top Tacoma prospects to watch

Mike Zunino, C: The college baseball player of the year in 2012 and No. 3 pick in last year's draft after clubbing 47 home runs in three years with Florida and leading the Gators to three trips to the College World Series. He enjoyed a quick taste of the minors last year, was promoted to Double-A (where he hit .333) and currently leads Tacoma with eight home runs and 36 RBIs. "Baseball America" rates Zunino as Seattle's top prospect.

Danny Hultzen, LHP: Like Zunino, Hultzen was a college star (at Virginia) and was taken with the No. 2 pick in 2011. Hultzen isn't scheduled to start a game in this series.

James Paxton, LHP: Wednesday's scheduled starter is the organization's No. 4 prospect. The Canadian has a fastball that touches 98 and a brutal 12-to-6 curveball - rated the top is the system - that he throws in the upper 70s. He's adjusting to Triple-A and currently has a 5.01 ERA but has 51 strikeouts in 46 2/3 innings.

Brad Miller, SS: The former ACC player of the year while at Clemson, Miller entered this season with a .341 lifetime average in 151 minor league games. He was promoted from Double-A last week.

Stefen Romero, 2B/3B: Seattle's minor league player of the year last year entered this season with a .534 slugging percentage in the minors. He's rated No. 8 in the system's prospect list by "Baseball America," giving Tacoma five of the system's top 10.

Pacific Coast League ramifications

The season's first truly meaningful home series, as the Sky Sox and Tacoma are atop the Pacific North standings. Colorado Springs (30-19) enters with a 1.5 game lead over the Rainiers (30-22).

Names you might know
