Upcoming series

Colorado Springs vs. Tucson Padres (Triple-A affiliate of San Diego Padres) at Security Service Field Thursday through Sunday. The five-game series opens with 5 p.m. doubleheader, followed by 7:05 p.m. Friday, 6:05 Saturday and 1:35 Sunday games.

Tucson prospects

Robbie Erlin, LHP: Rated No. 8 prospect in organization by mlb.com, the 5-foot-11, 190-pounder is 6-2, with a 5.25 ERA in 581/3 innings pitched for Tucson. His strong fall league showing suggests he is recovered from elbow tendinitis in 2012. His best pitches are the fastball, curve and changeup.

Kevin Quackenbush, RHP: Recent call-up from Class AA San Antonio is rated No. 17 by mlb.com. The 6-3, 220-pounder is 1-1 with a 7.71 ERA with one save in 42/3 innings in relief. He relies on his 94-mph fastball and slider.

Burch Smith, RHP: Rated the Padres' No. 18 prospect by mlb.com, the 6-4, 215-pound starter is 3-1 in Tucson (2.57 ERA, 8 BB, 26 K, 28 innings) since moving up from San Antonio. His fastball hits 97 mph with late cutting movement.

Impact players

Sean O'Sullivan, RHP: Leads Tucson with 7-4 record and 3.82 ERA (11th in PCL) in 941/3 innings, fourth in the league. His 81 strikeouts are seventh.

Dean Anna. 2B: Fourth in the PCL in batting (.344), third in doubles (23) and fifth in hits (95).

Rene Rivera, C: Sixth in the PCL with a .327 batting average, his best year statistically since 2005.

PCL ramifications

The Sky Sox try to keep pace with Pacific North Division-leading Tacoma while Tucson is tied for first in the Pacific Southern.
