Paolo Espino threw 62/3 scoreless innings and Ryan Cordell went 4-for-4 as the Colorado Springs Sky Sox stifled a ninth-inning rally to defeat the Nashville Sounds 6-5 in front of 3,628 at Security Service Field on Sunday afternoon.
Espino (3-0, 3.42) won his third consecutive outing and picked up his first Pacific Coast League victory against a team besides the Memphis Redbirds. The right-hander scattered four hits and struck out five batters to give the Panamanian 23 strikeouts over his four appearances in 2017.
Nashville (6-10) scored five runs in the ninth inning, but Rob Scahill forced Franklin Barreto to line out to second baseman Ivan De Jesus to end the threat and pick up his third save.
Colorado Springs broke the game open with a four-run sixth inning. The Sky Sox improved to 11-5 in Pacific Coast League baseball play.
