A series win escaped the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (27-35) once again, despite a strong starting effort from LHP Christian Friedrich (1-7) as the Iowa Cubs (32-28) won 3-0 in the series finale Sunday afternoon.
Friedrich allowed just one run in his five innings of work, an RBI single from Chris Valaika. Friedrich also had two strikeouts, but did walk three.
The Sky Sox had men in scoring position to take the lead in the sixth thanks to singles from Rafael Ynoa and Jason Pridie, but RHP Dallas Beeler (3-2) got out of the inning to leave both runners stranded.
The I-Cubs scored another two in the seventh thanks to an RBI-triple by Arismendy Alcantara and an RBI-single from Javy Baez against RHP Wilton Lopez.
Beeler tossed seven shutout innings for the I-Cubs, allowing just five hits while striking out five and walking two.
RHP Blake Parker saved his second game of the series and is 13th game of the season, striking out two batters in the ninth inning.
Ynoa recorded his fifth straight game with a hit, and has three multi-hit hits during that span. Ynoa is hitting .421 (8-for-19) in his last five games to improve his batting average to .256.
The Sky Sox return home to face the Las Vegas 51s on Monday when RHP Mike McClendon (NR) squares off against RHP Rafael Montero (4-1, 3.83 ERA).
