Signing day: A look at the Air Force men's basketball recruiting class

Here's a look at the class that signed Wednesday with Air Force men's basketball. Unlike other schools, which offer binding National Letters of Intent, service academies simply ask recruits to sign commitment letters as they must complete the appointment process and, in many cases, put in a year at the prep school before officially entering the academy.

Anthony Charles - 6-foot-8 – F - Austin, Texas (Round Rock McNeil)

His club team, Strength ‘N Motion International, describes him as a “tenacious rebounder, good pick and pop midrange shooter, finishes above the rim.” … Committed earlier this month.

 

Marcus Hill – 6-1 - G - Dallas (Jesuit Prep)

Also held offers from Boston University and UT Arlington. … Averaged more than 13 points as a sophomore and junior, hitting 41 percent from 3-point range as a junior. … Is a career 75 percent free-throw shooter.

 

Nikc Jackson - 6-8 – PF - Scottsdale, Ariz. (Rancho Solano)

Nikc’s father, Jermaine Jackson, recently retired after a long career in the Air Force. … Intends to go into the medical field. … High school coach told Arizona Central that “his game is very smooth and he plays with emotion.” … Averaged 19 points and 11 rebounds last year.

 

Deven Nelson - 6-2 - PG - Colorado Springs (Mesa Ridge)

Listed as a 3-star recruit by ESPN. ... Averaged 14.1 ppg as a junior. … According to his club team, the Colorado Hawks, Nelson offered this explanation for his decision: “As I was sitting with Coach (Dave) Pilipovich and the staff, I felt like this was this place I wanted to be. I told the coaches, that I felt my collegiate life would be missing something if there was not a military aspect associated with it.”

 

Solomon Pierre-Louis - 6-4 - Gahanna, Ohio (Wellington School)

He lists his “intangibles, court vision, ability to finish in the paint and mid-range jump shot” as his strengths. … Received the MVP of Character for excellence in academics, community service and athletics from the Greater Columbus Basketball Legends Association.

 

Mason Taylor - 6-4 - PG/SG - Grandview, Mo. (Grandview)

Air Force was first offer for the Kansas City-area commit, coming in the fall of his junior year. … Averaged 11.5 ppg and 4.4 rpg as a junior, and has shot 39 percent from 3-point range over 193 attempts in high school career.

 

Camden Vander Zwaag - 6-3 - G - Johnston, Iowa

Left-handed sharpshooter was ranked by Prep Hoops as the No. 18 recruit in Iowa. … Initial offer from Air Force came prior to his junior year.
