El Paso County Sheriff's Office investigators say the man killed by a train in Monument Tuesday night committed suicide.
"There is evidence indicating this person meant to kill himself," spokesman Lt. Jeff Kramer said Wednesday.
Although authorities have identified the man struck by a train around 11:30 p.m., Kramer said the victim's name would not be released until next-of-kin notification was completed.
Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad, or BNSF, reported one of their trains had hit a person on the tracks near Park Trail Drive and Blizzard Valley Trail.
Andy Williams, BNSF public affairs director for Colo., said the train's crew reported seeing a pedestrian run out of the vegetation and lay down on the train tracks.
Monument police, El Paso County Sheriff's Office deputies and BNSF investigators were at the scene through the night and into early Wednesday morning, Kramer said.
