A woman told Colorado Springs police she was sexually assaulted Wednesday near the area of the Hancock Expressway and Fountain Boulevard, south of Memorial Park, in broad daylight.

The Gazette does not typically identify sexual assault victims.

Officers were dispatched to the Hillside Community Center around 2 p.m. when the victim indicated she had been walking near the area and was attacked by an unidentified man. Police said the attacker hit the victim in the head and dragged her into the creek area, where he sexually assaulted her, then fled on foot.

Police described the attacker as a man with medium build, 5'11'' tall, in his 40s with short black hair, wearing a gray t-shirt and blue jeans. He was also described as having a pot belly.

Police said no arrests have been made and the investigation is continuing.

Anyone with information is urged to call 444-7000 or Pikes Peak Area Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP (7867).
