Gazette Premium Content Schultz's Gourmet adding spicy nuts to its saucy product line

A company that started in Monument is about to go nuts.

Sedulous Foods Inc., maker of the Schultz's Gourmet brand hot sauces and seasonings, will launch a line of nuts seasoned with the company's signature flavors at the Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, Calif., next month.

It's the first new product the company has introduced since it started in 2005.

"We've been very focused on making the sauces and seasoning successful, building distribution and brand recognition," Mike R. Schultz, chief operating officer of Sedulous Foods, said Thursday. "Now, we're launching into the snack market. It's been a long project coming."

He said the company eventually will come out with other snack products.

Schultz's father started the company in Monument, making sauces based on 30-year-old family recipes. All operations moved to Centennial about 18 months ago, Schultz said.

In five years, the company's three products - Spicy Original Hot Sauce, Sweet Heat Hot Sauce and Premium Seasoning & Rub - have landed on shelves in more than 30 states through retailers that include Whole Foods, Sprouts, Costco, Vitamin Cottage and Albertson's.

"On average, we see about 200 percent growth year over year," Schultz said.

The company has emphasized the all-natural, gluten-free ingredients of its hallmark products, and will do the same with its new line of Health Helpful Snack Nuts: Spicy Original Almonds and Sweet Heat Cashews.

"Nuts just really fit in with our healthful approach," Schultz said.
