Highlights from Saturday night's high school sports scene around the Pikes Peak region.
Woodland Park 6, Conifer 2
At Woodland Park: Kelee Suggs set the tone with a lead-off home run in the bottom of the first inning, then returned in the second to do it again, as Woodland Park moved to 2-0 on the season with the win over Conifer (0-2).
Lexie Comer also homered and Mallorie Trichell (2-0) pitched all seven innings for the Panthers.
"Kelee is a real-deal player," Panthers coach Dale Huntington said. "To come out and hit a home run right out of the gate after being down 1-0, it hurt their pitcher right away, got in her mind."
Trichell yielded nine hits, but only allowed two runs - one earned - to stay unbeaten.
"This was a good test for us," Huntington said.
Vista Ridge 14, Elizabeth 0
At Elizabeth: Vista Ridge (2-2) scored five runs in both the second and fourth innings, ending the game in five because of the 10-run rule to pull its record to .500.
Kellie Mrofcza pitched all five innings and struck out eight for the win. She also scored twice to help her cause.
Aubrey Martinez went 3 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Nichole Kramer had a pair of hits, including a double, and scored a run and drove in another.
Mitchell 17, St. Mary's 12
At St. Mary's: A nine-run fourth inning helped Mitchell (1-0) overcome a 6-3 deficit and pull away for the Marauders' season-opening win.
The Pirates (0-1) committed seven errors, allowing for the Marauders, who only had six hits, to pull away.
Pirates starter Ashley Vetack was saddled with the loss after giving up 17 runs, but only three of them were earned.
Briana Medina-Martinez went 4 for 5, scored four runs, tripled and drove in four RBIs for the Pirates. Sophomore McKenzie Hernez reached base three times, scored three runs and drove in two.
Mitchell did not report stats.
Heritage 12, Doherty 0
At Doherty: Doherty (1-1) was held to one hit in a five-inning loss to Heritage (1-0).
The Spartans defense committed seven errors, as Breanna Brettschneider took the loss, yielding 10 hits, 12 runs - nine earned - in five innings.
Stefanie Peck led the Eagles with three RBIs and Carly Carlsen went 3 for 4 with a triple, two RBIs and three runs scored.
Palmer Ridge 8, Canon City 0
At Canon City: Madysen Kearns threw a five-hit, complete-game shutout to lead Palmer Ridge (2-0).
Kearns struck out eight in the effort.
Senior McKenzie Brummond went 3 for 4 and drove in a pair of runs, while Ciara Richardson tripled, scored and drove in a run.
